Youth employment forum

In order to highlight the importance of youth in the world of work, the ILO Director General has decided to organize a global Youth Employment Forum that was hosted on the premises of the International Labour Office in Geneva from the 23rd to 25th of May 2012. About 100 young people aged 18-32 participated in the Forum, representing young women and men who are active in the promotion of decent work for youth.

Prior to the Forum, more than 40 national events on youth employment were organized to address the challenge of youth employment. A summary of these discussions was presented during the Forum.

The Forum consisted of plenary sessions, thematic sessions and breakout workshops. Additionally, there was a “Good Practice Marketplace”. The key issues discussed at the Forum are presented at the 101st meeting of the International Labour Conference in Geneva in June 2012.
